Free Screening of "Afterschool"
|
In response to increasingly tough times for independent film, the Ivy Film Festival has launched the Ivy Filmmaker Series, creating an informal distribution network across New England for outstanding independent films that have not received major distribution.
Using the brand power of the Ivy League and the resources available to its students, the IFF will screen these powerful and provocative films at each of the eight universities and colleges. We want to demonstrate how individual schools and communities can get involved on a grassroots level in supporting artists, whether they are students, locals, or independent filmmakers trying to tell their stories. We believe that the Ivy League, with an international brand and students renowned for helping their communities and causes in far-reaching and entrepreneurial ways, has a great opportunity to set this example.
While methods of film distribution are changing rapidly, moving to online, VOD, and other platforms, we believe that the communal experience of viewing a film in a theater will never lose its appeal.
The first film of the series, Afterschool, is director Antonio Campos’ first feature film, made when he was only 24-years-old. Having premiered at Cannes Film Festival, it was nominated for Best First Feature at the 2009 Independent Spirit Awards, and Best Breakthrough Director and Best Film Not Playing at a Theater Near You at the 2008 Gotham Awards.
Join us in Providence, RI, New York, NY, Ithaca, NY, New Haven, CT, Hanover, NH, Princeton, NJ, Philadelphia, PA, or Cambridge, MA to watch the film this month! Details about other screenings to come…
